One year ago Mongolia celebrated two gold medal wins at the Olympics. Now it can celebrate 2 more wins in a different type of sport – video games. At the Asian Indoor Games the Mongolian Team won a bronze medal and a silver medal in the electronic sport category. This is the first time a Mongolian team won a medal at the Asian Indoor Games on E-Sport.
The Asian Indoor Games are held every two years and are regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia. This year the events are being held in Hanoi, Vietnam. The sporting events commenced on October 30 and will run through November 8.
The Mongolians won medals for play in the video games Counterstrike 1.6 and Defense of the Ancients All Stars. Counterstrike 1.6 is a first-person shooter where players fight as either a terrorist or a counterterrorist in locations such as an airplane or a middle-eastern bazaar. Defense of the Ancients is a spin-off of Warcraft 3, a popular fantasy-strategy game where players attempt to destroy the opposing team’s buildings.
