In 1989, the costruction building field, 135 are in the designing field and 98 companies are involved in the production of construction materials. Since 1990 till end of 2003, approximately over 300 foreign investment companies with a total direct investment of US$49.5 millions were registered in construction sector. Simultaneously with the expansion of construction services, a "Master plan to develop the construction sector to 2010" was prepared with the ultimate goal of further developing this sector to international standards, and of providing the population with adequate housing.
Within this framework, major construction projects, such as "New century", "Moscow district" and "Kyokyushuzan fund" are being implemented to build housing apartment complexes. The construction sector has recovered. About 1500 buildings are to be built each year on average. In the first quarter of 2004 an apartment block for 200 families has already been opened. These are designated for elders and civil servants.
